Tooling For an Automobile Rear Window Trim/Shelf
A company in the automotive industry needed tooling completed for the rear window trim and shelf of an automobile. Snider Mold Company was contracted to employ our state-of-the-art compression tooling with in-mold periphery trim to complete the task. We also built the secondary trim die for optional hydraulic actuated speaker configurations after the molding, demonstrating our advanced equipment and our company's versatility.
Our quality engineering department was engaged for mold design, concept, and product design assistance, using our customer's specifications and 3D CAD models. Our CNC machining was used for milling, drilling, contour cutting, boring, EDM, and 5-axis milling, manufacturing the trim and shelf with P-20 steel. Substrate and cover stock were molded in one shot and trimmed in mold, with the final mold having dimensions of 96" maximum length, 76" maximum width, 45" maximum height, with an estimated tool weight of 24,000 lbs. and tightest tolerances of ± 0.003". In keeping with high quality control and industry standards, first piece inspection and functionality testing were employed throughout the process.
The turnaround time for this project was 18 weeks. To find out more about this project, or to learn about how Snider Mold Company can be your one-stop tooling source for automotive SMC manufacturing, please see the table below or contact us directly
